The heroes

There are heroes waiting for your orders in the barracks! We have noble, charismatic human warriors, stoic and graceful elves, boastful, sturdy dwarves and terrifying and vicious orcs! Which ones do you prefer? Or could you possibly handle them all?

Each homestead will attract hopeful heroes wishing to fight under your banner, and to manage them competently is the most important task as a lord in Path to Pelantas. You start off with 10 randomly generated heroes of different race and with different weapons and attributes. Your heroes will define your success, so you better make sure, they progress in the best possible manner.

There are four races in Path to Pelantas; humans, elves, orcs and dwarves and each of them have advantage and disadvantages. All heroes also have a numeric skill level in the predefined attributes. These attributes are:

• Strength
• Dexterity
• Intelligence
• Leadership
• Bravery
• Toughness
• Swiftness

Attributes define how well heroes perform in the different areas of the game. The higher the score the better!

There are many things to do with your heroes; battles, quests, hunts, training and much more.

Battles

Blood will flow when the heroes of Pelantas clash in the arena! 5 against 5, steel meets steel, life, death and glory! Dominate the arena and you will dominate your realm. Do you have what it takes to claim the grand trophy!

The most important part of the game is the weekly arena battle against the heroes of another lord. Each homestead fields five different heroes who will fight according to preset orders. You can choose to attack with a hero’s ranged weapon, or decide to go for head to head combat with his melee weapon. You can also choose a combination of these.

It is quite easy to set an effective battle formation, but in the long run you will find out that there are several strategic possibilities to improve your chances of winning. It is, of course, important to analyse your opponent and try to figure out what kind of tactics he will use.

The battles are fought each Saturday at 16 CET and last for approximately 15 minutes. You don’t have to be online when a battle is fought. You just have to submit your orders some time before the battle begins, and then your heroes will fight for you, even though you are not present.

It is possible to follow the battles “live” with the built-in battle viewer, which will display the fighting step by step. But you don’t have to be online at battle time. You may always log in later on and watch the battle in its entirety.

The winner of the battle is the homestead with the most kills when the battle time has expired. If the battle ends in a stalemate it will continue in a dramatic first-kill overtime. All homesteads participate in a grand tournament and after each season winners and losers are promoted and relegated according to their performance.

Quests

Every hero craves the glory of valorous quests and here is your chance to satisfy their desire. Send them forth to slay hideous monsters, cross inhospitable mountains, enter dark crypts and claim unimaginable treasures. Hail to the quest!

Each week you will get a new and unique quest. The quest will come with a small introduction text addressing a situation that needs to be resolved. By reading the text carefully, it is then you task to try and figure out which attributes might be needed to complete the quest.

You then choose one single hero who will venture out and return in a few days - hopefully successful!

You may choose different levels of quests - the higher the level the harder the quest.

If the quest is resolved successfully, the hero will earn lots of experience and bring back heaps of gold to your homestead.

Hunt for monsters

Send your heroes into the wilderness to hunt for vicious monsters and experience the thrill of a celebrated kill. There are numerous monsters to hunt, ranging from feeble goblins to legendary dragons. Let bowstring and steel prevail!

To hunt means to send your heroes into the wilderness, to track down and slay hideous and dangerous monsters. There are numerous monsters to find and it is very prestigious to kill the hard ones.

Killing monsters will earn you gold and hunt respect, which again will attract many new inhabitants. Moreover, the hero will gain important experience and have his morale boosted, and you will climb the hunt rankings.

When you send a hero on a hunt you may choose to send him searching for a random monster, or a specific one. Some monsters are very easy to find while others are extremely rare. You may also choose his fight dedication and which weapon he is supposed to use.

The hero can return at any time, so it is always exciting to log in and see if your hero has found something!

Special events

Has your homestead suddenly been hit by fierce storm, does a hooded stranger offer to sell you a precious artifact, or is it time for the annual archery contest? When it comes to special events, expect the unexpected!

Just like hunts, special events can occur at all times. They concern countless different things and can both affect your homestead as well as your heroes. Often you have to choose between different options, which then again means that these events have different outcomes. It is your job to find the best one!

There are countless exciting special events, so you will never receive an event you have had before.

The homestead

Manage your homestead and your economy well, and witness the fruit of your labours, as you attract crowds of new inhabitants. As a lord you rule supreme, and who in his right mind hasn't always wanted to call out: "Hey you! Go do my bidding!"

In the game you play the role as the ruler of an entire homestead. With the title as lord comes the responsibility to make sure the homestead prospers, thus attracting lots of citizens. People from far will namely come to your gates, if you have a party of famous heroes, and a welcoming tax policy. Obviously you need the taxes to finance your efforts, but if you strain your population to much they will start moving away again.

On your homestead page you are able to provide info about yourself, write tales about your glorious deeds and display your coat of arms. And visitors are able to pay you tribute or mock you in your guestbook.

Experience

Your heroes all fight to become worthy of the ultimate honour; an afterlife in Pelantas. And the path they have chosen is not an easy one! Only the most experienced will be accepted – and remember; no flowery road leads to glory!

Like in any other good RPG the heroes will be awarded experience points for all their deeds in the game. It is your job to appoint your heroes for the appropriate tasks, so they can gain experience and thus increase in level and skills. Experience points are awarded for battles, quests, hunts and various other deeds (the exact amount is based on the level of the accomplishment).

For each 3000 experience points gained, the hero will be able to raise a level. All heroes start at level 1 and each time they progress in level you will be able to alter their attributes. You can choose few or several attributes you would like to see boosted. The fewer you choose the greater the boost for the specific attribute.

Realms and the tournament system

As a lord in Path to Pelantas, you found your homestead in a unique realm and compete with all your neighboring lords. Is it in your blood to defeat them and thus claim the legendary conquest trophy?

This browsergame is split into several realms. Each one of these consists of 420 users trying to rule supreme and be the best lord in the respective realm.

This is primarily done by winning battles in the arena. In each realm there is a complete tournament system with four honour divisions - each with its own tournament. All lords participate in a grand tournament, which starts with leagues battles. In each league 6 homesteads compete for the league title and a head start in the conquest tournament.

The conquest is a one on one tournament based on Swiss chess rules – you will be paired with an opponent who has done just as well (or bad) as yourself.

In the end only one champion (the one with the most battles won) is found in the great conquest! This is the ultimate title and it will bring great glory to your homestead.

After the season is over, all users will be promoted or relegated according to their performance in the past season.

Morale

Morale is an important factor for all heroes of Path to Pelantas, but don’t despair! If the fire in your favorite hero’s heart has died out, you can always rekindle it by throwing him a rowdy bash! And who doesn’t need one of those from time to time…

The heroes are not mere fighting machines. They all have a morale score, which will go up and down, according to the heroes’ accomplishments and how you treat them.

You must pay for the heroes’ accommodation and the cost for this varies depending on how important they feel they are. Thus, high level heroes will demand more luxury than new hopeful recruits.

Heroes will of course get a morale boost by winning battles, accomplishing quests and killing monsters. But you can also alter the morale by buying them different treats (morale boosters).

When on low morale, the heroes will perform remarkably worse, so it’s a good idea to keep an ever watching eye on your heroes and make sure their morale is good.

Training

Nothing valuable in life can be achieved overnight. Thus, all heroes with their eyes set on Pelantas will need to train, and train hard. And as they slowly improve, your feelings towards them will improve as well.

You may train your heroes in various disciplines. You can train their weapon proficiency, their attributes or teach them specific battle techniques.

Your heroes will earn training points each Friday based on the number of days they have been training. These points may then be allocated for the specific training methods listed above. There is a cost for training and low level heroes are cheaper to train than your high level ones. So, in the end you will have to decide, which heroes are worth paying the training expenses for.

Recruitment

As an influential lord you have the ability to attract heroes from near and far. Arrange grand tournaments to determine who is talented enough to enter your ranks! Only true warriors will prevail in the strife for Pelantas, so choose wisely!

The most important way to get new and better heroes is to recruit them. There are several different recruitment forms which all vary in price and length. The cheapest solution is to go to the local tavern and get a new recruit right away, but these are most likely rubbish. The most talented new heroes come from the greater recruitments, which last for several weeks and cost much gold.

When a recruitment is over, you will be presented with different hero alternatives. You are not able to see the complete stats of the heroes, so you will base your choice on different information such as race, attributes, hit points and weapons.

Market

The marketplace is bustling with activity! Do you have the necessary skills to make the right buy, or the stomach to sell one of your best heroes? Either way, trading is fun!

Besides recruitments, the market is another way to get new heroes. Here you may buy young talents or weathered veterans. The market works as an auction – if you want to sell a hero you send him to the market with a minimum price. You also decide when the deadline should be, and then he is visible for all other users in the game. Whenever a bid is made the minimum bid increases. And when the deadline is due, the lord with the highest bid gets the hero and the seller gets the gold.

Achievements

Everyone needs goals in their lives, and it is no different with the heroes of Path to Pelantas. As they slowly rise towards immortality, they accomplish a variety of achievements resulting in status, power and honourable titles.

There are specific achievements to accomplish for the heroes. These are divided into three categories:

• Battle achievements
• Quest achievements
• Hunt achievements

There are five different achievements in each category and each varies in level of difficulty. When all five achievements have been accomplished, the hero will gain a title and a bonus of 3000 experience points.

These are the titles:

• Veteran - battle achievements accomplished
• Adventurer – quest achievements accomplished
• Ranger – hunt achievements accomplished
• Conqueror – battle + quest achievements accomplished
• Champion – battle + hunt achievements accomplished
• Crusader – quest + hunt achievements accomplished
• Legend – all 15 achievements accomplished

The title of legend is highly prestigious and extremely rare!

Weapons

Bows, staffs, blades and much more! It is up to you, to decide which of these instigators of death and despair you prefer. But remember to consult you heroes. Powerful orcs might have a special liking for morning stars and two-handed swords.

All heroes are equipped with ranged and melee weapons and their attribute scores define how well they fight with these. These are the specific weapons:

Long sword
The long sword is a fairly fast weapon and it offers very good protection. However, it doesn’t do as much damage as other melee weapons – a small damage bonus is added for strong heroes.

Two-handed sword
The heavy two-handed sword is slow, but it offers quite a good protection and deals superior damage – especially when wielded by strong heroes.

Battle axe
The battle axe is a bit slow. It offers mediocre protection and it deals quite a good deal of damage – especially when wielded by strong heroes.

Morning star
The morning star is slow, and it offers almost no protection. However, when used successfully it deals a massive amount of damage with a great bonus for very strong heroes.

Pair of daggers
The daggers are very swift weapons and they offer mediocre protection. The damage, however, is not as great as from other melee weapons.

Battle staff
The battle staff is extremely fast, but it only deals little damage with a little bonus added for strong heroes. It offers superior protection.

Longbow
The longbow is an extremely fast weapon, but each shot only deals a small amount of damage. It offers no protection whatsoever.

Crossbow
The crossbow is a fast weapon dealing a fair amount of damage. It offers no protection whatsoever.

Throwing knives
The throwing knives are relatively fast and they offer a little protection. They deal a fair amount of damage with a small bonus added for strong wielders.

Throwing javelins
The throwing javelins are very slow but they offer some protection and they deal superior damage compared to the other ranged weapons.

There are different proficiency levels and for every single weapon there are special skills, which can be obtained through massive training.

Hunt respect - hero

Only rarely a true hunter emerges. A man shaped by instinct, bound to the wilderness and a desire to slay. Do you have him in your ranks?
